Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration has received its first V-BAT aircraft from Shield AI as part of a planned delivery of twelve aircraft, according to the manufacturer’s delivery announcement. The Coast Guard selected the system in July 2026 for its Shipborne UAV program.
Naval News reported the announcement, including the presentation of newly arrived aircraft at the Port of Taipei on October 7. Shield AI says the Coast Guard intends to use V-BAT for maritime-domain awareness, coastal patrols and law enforcement.
The company’s announcement pairs the aircraft with a support arrangement: Shield AI will train Coast Guard operators and maintenance personnel, while working with Taiwan’s Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation, or AIDC, on localized support. This makes training and sustainment part of the stated delivery plan, rather than treating the aircraft alone as an operational capability.
A separate Shield AI–AIDC agreement announcement describes the earlier framework for local maintenance, training and support. The agreement provides context for the delivery relationship; it is not independent evidence of performance on Taiwanese patrol missions.
V-BAT’s vertical-takeoff-and-landing design supports operations without a conventional runway. Shield AI describes ship-based surveillance as the intended Coast Guard role. Those design and mission claims come from the supplier, and Naval News’s story reports that supplier announcement.
The available material does not document an actual Taiwan Coast Guard mission, independently tested endurance or patrol results. The confirmed scope of the reporting is the announced delivery, intended missions and training-and-support partnership.
